1. Opening the Preview Panel
You arrive here after clicking the View button on a suggestion in the Link Suggestions panel. The preview automatically slides in from the right side of the screen and covers about 60% of the viewport width. In the preview, you will see:
- Back to Suggestions link at the top‐left corner. Clicking this returns you to the full Link Suggestions list and slides the preview away.
- Close (X) icon at the top‐right corner. Clicking this closes the preview entirely and returns you to the suggestions list.
- The page's live content, divided into editable paragraphs. Each editable region is clickable—hover until your cursor changes to an I‐bar, then click to place the cursor.
-
A vertical toolbar on the left containing four icons:
- Close (X) – closes the preview panel.
- Insert Link (🔗) – inserts the suggested link at your cursor or on selected text.
- Auto-Suggest (💡) – uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to choose the best insertion point.
- Save (💾) – saves your changes back to the server.
2. Understanding Auto-Suggest Intelligence
The Auto-Suggest (💡) feature goes far beyond simple text placement. When you click this button, the system employs sophisticated Natural Language Processing algorithms to analyze your content and determine the optimal insertion point for the suggested link.
Here's what happens behind the scenes:
- Content Analysis: The system tokenizes your text and uses TF-IDF (Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency) calculations to understand content relevance and context.
- Synonym Matching: It looks for related terms and synonyms that might be contextually appropriate for the anchor text, not just exact matches.
- Placement Optimization: The algorithm evaluates multiple potential insertion points, considering sentence structure, word boundaries, and natural flow.
- Grammar Awareness: It automatically adjusts for proper spacing, punctuation, and ensures the link integrates naturally without disrupting readability.
When Auto-Suggest completes, the newly inserted link will flash with a green-blue highlight and automatically scroll into view. If the placement isn't perfect, you can simply click and drag to reposition the link text manually before saving.
3. Auto-Suggest Limitations and When to Use Manual Placement
While Auto-Suggest provides intelligent link placement, it's important to understand its limitations so you can set realistic expectations and know when manual placement might be more appropriate.
Auto-Suggest works best as a helpful starting point rather than a perfect solution. Here are common scenarios where it may struggle:
- Very Short Content: Paragraphs with fewer than 20-30 words don't provide enough context for the algorithm to make confident placement decisions.
- Highly Technical or Specialized Text: Content with industry jargon, technical terminology, or specialized vocabulary may not have sufficient synonym matches in the system's database.
- Lists and Bullet Points: The algorithm may place links awkwardly within bulleted or numbered lists, especially when trying to maintain parallel structure.
- Content with Unusual Formatting: Text with extensive use of quotes, parentheses, or special characters can confuse the word boundary detection.
- Already Link-Heavy Content: Pages with many existing links may receive suboptimal placement as the system tries to avoid clustering links too closely together.
- Ambiguous Anchor Text: Generic terms like "click here," "read more," or very common words may not provide enough semantic context for intelligent placement.
Best Practice: Treat Auto-Suggest as a time-saving starting point that handles about 70-80% of placements adequately. Always review the suggested placement and be prepared to use manual insertion for precise control, especially in important content or when the suggested placement feels unnatural when you read it aloud.
When to Choose Manual Over Auto-Suggest: Use the Insert Link (🔗) button instead when you're working with short content, have a specific placement in mind, or when Auto-Suggest has previously struggled with similar content on your site.
4. Manual Link Insertion
For precise control over link placement, use the Insert Link (🔗) button:
- Position Your Cursor: Click exactly where you want the link to appear, or select existing text that should become the link.
- Click Insert Link: The suggested anchor text will be inserted at your cursor position, or will replace your selected text.
- Verify Placement: The new link appears immediately with the suggested URL and anchor text, styled to stand out from regular content.
This method gives you complete control over exactly where links appear, making it ideal when you know the precise context where a link should be placed.
5. Draft Management System
The editor includes an intelligent auto-save system that protects your work and allows you to seamlessly resume editing sessions. Understanding how drafts work will help you edit with confidence.
Auto-Save Behavior
While you edit, the system automatically saves your progress every 60 seconds in the background. You won't see any visual indication of these saves—they happen silently to preserve your work without interrupting your flow.
Draft Notifications
When you return to a page where you have unsaved changes, you'll see a prominent notification banner at the top of the preview:
Managing Drafts
- Restore Draft: Click this to load your previously unsaved changes. The content will immediately update to show your draft version.
- Discard: Click this to permanently delete the draft and start fresh with the published content.
- Navigation Protection: If you try to leave a page with unsaved changes, you'll see a confirmation dialog asking if you're sure you want to leave.
When Drafts Are Cleared
Drafts are automatically removed when you successfully save your changes using the Save (💾) button. This ensures that only truly unsaved work is preserved as drafts.
6. Link Editing Popover
Once links exist in your content—whether inserted manually, via Auto-Suggest, or already present—you can edit them directly using the link editing popover. This feature appears when you click on any existing link in the editor.
Opening the Link Editor
Simply click on any blue, underlined link in your content. A popover will immediately appear near the link with editing options:
Editing Options
- URL Field: Modify the destination URL. This is useful for correcting links or updating them to point to different pages.
- Text Field: Change the anchor text that users see. This allows you to optimize the link text for better SEO or clarity.
- Update: Saves your changes to both the URL and anchor text. The link immediately updates in the content.
- Remove: Completely removes the link while preserving the text. The anchor text remains but is no longer clickable.
- Cancel: Closes the popover without making any changes.
Smart Text Handling
The system intelligently handles different types of links:
- User-Selected Text: If you originally selected existing text to create the link, removing it will preserve that text but make it unlinked.
- Auto-Inserted Text: If the system inserted both the link and the text (via Auto-Suggest or manual insertion), removing it will delete both the link and the text entirely.
7. Loading States
When you click Auto-Suggest (💡) or open a large page preview, you may briefly see a loading spinner while the system processes your request. Below is an example of that spinner in action:
